University of Turku
The University of Turku, founded in 1920, is an internationally active and attractive academic research university whose strength lies in high-quality, multidisciplinary research. The UTU is a member in many European and global networks. The UTU promotes education and free science and provides higher education that is based on research.
As one of the leading universities in Finland, the University of Turku offers study and research opportunities in eight faculties: Education, Humanities, Law, Medicine, Science, Social Sciences, Technology, and Turku School of Economics; and in five independent units: Brahea Centre of UTU, Centre of Language and Communication Studies, Finnish Centre for Astronomy with ESO, Turku Bioscience Centre, and Turku PET Centre. Today, the University of Turku has 22,000 students and 3,300 staff members (11% international).
The University of Turku has participated in many Erasmus+ projects, EU framework programmes, ERC projects and Marie S. Curie projects. For example within the 6th Framework Programme (FP6), the University of Turku participated in 48 projects.
In the international QS ranking, the University of Turku is among the top 300 universities and is ranked third best university in Finland (QS Ranking 2022). Faculty of Medicine includes the Department of Nursing Science, established in 1986. The Department of Nursing Science is a versatile unit offering high-quality education and research. The task is to promote academic learning, develop nursing science research and enhance the implementation of research-based nursing and health care. The Department offers education in the health sciences (main subject nursing science) at the Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral levels. Department of Nursing Science has been ranked frequently among the best universities in Finland and globally, recently it was ranked 28th in the world (QS 2022)
